Guitarist Phil Sgrosso announced on Instagram on Wednesday (October 30) that he has left As I Lay Dying. Sgrosso joins three other band members – Ken Susi, Nick Pierce, and Ryan Neff – who all quit the group last week. The only member left in the band is frontman Tim Lambesis, who reunited the group in 2018 after serving 2 ½ years in prison for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his wife. Sgrosso writes, “Over time, As I Lay Dying has been held back by dysfunction, and I feel that it’s no longer my responsibility to bear that burden.” Sgrosso says being in the band was a “difficult and serious situation,” especially after “witnessing some concerning patterns of behavior.” Sgrosso explains that “recent actions have shown that As I Lay Dying no longer offers a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved,” and concludes that, “I feel it’s in my best interest to completely distance myself, both creatively and personally, from As I Lay Dying.” (Consequence of Sound)
